The multi-team tag and every count respect the same setting.
Impact per game. One explainable score per player per match, in three parts, each priced from the division's own scoring patterns and re-derived at every stats refresh: batting (runs × match scarcity × strike-rate-vs-par) + bowling (a share of the dismissed batter's positional value) + fielding (the complementary share of that same value). Match scarcity is the division's runs-per-wicket divided by that particular match's own runs-per-wicket (both innings combined), clamped between 0.75 and 1.35 — a low-scoring match makes every run harder-won, an easy pitch makes runs cheap. Strike-rate-vs-par rewards or penalises tempo against the division's own par strike rate (runs per 100 balls, from every innings with balls recorded), damped to a quarter of the raw gap and clamped between 0.85 and 1.15 so a handful of balls cannot swing a whole game; an innings with no balls recorded multiplies at a neutral 1.0. A wicket pays out exactly 100% of the dismissed batter's positional value (the same baseline the "bat them higher?" signal holds) — bowled, lbw, hit wicket and caught-and-bowled credit the bowler the full 100%; a catch (including caught behind) or stumping splits 70% to the bowler and 30% to the credited fielder or keeper; a run out credits the fielder(s) the full 100% and the bowler nothing. Two fallbacks keep every wicket priced: a position with no baseline yet, or a wicket a bowling card records that cannot be matched to a named dismissal, is priced at 100% of the flat runs-per-wicket instead: Division 2 21.1 runs/wkt, 64.3 runs/100 balls; Division 6 18 runs/wkt, 59.3 runs/100 balls, with no fielding share to split in that case. The flat runs-per-wicket (not the positional one) also sets the "proven wicket-taker" threshold in the selection signals. Deliberately excluded from every part of the score: any win/result bonus, and captaincy. The score is a conversation-starter, not a verdict.
Position-fair batting comparison. The "bat them higher?" signal never compares a lower-order batter against the whole division's average — that figure is dominated by top-order innings and would be unfair in both directions. Instead the dashboard holds a baseline for every batting position in every division, computed from all of that division's innings this season. Each player's comparison is then assembled innings by innings: every knock is measured against the baseline of the slot they actually filled that day, so a player who bats 3, then 2, then 5 is judged against the blended norm of exactly those three slots — no fixed position is ever assumed. The signal fires when a typical No. 7-or-lower batter beats their blended baseline by 30% or more (minimum average 15).
Form window. The slider sets how many recent games count as "current form". Rankings, flags and promotion picks use impact per game over that window; the season-long rate is always shown alongside as the comparison baseline. Narrow windows react fastest but are the noisiest — sanity-check them against the season column.
Batting numbers. Only innings actually batted count. Average = runs ÷ dismissals (the standard cricket average — a not-out innings adds runs but no dismissal). Strike rate = runs per 100 balls faced. On the contribution board these cover the form window; the promotion cards do the same.
Bowling numbers. Computed only from the games a player bowled in. Average = runs conceded ÷ wickets. Strike rate = balls bowled ÷ wickets. Economy = runs conceded per over. Lower is better for all three. On the contribution board these cover the form window.
Match formats and bowling allowance. A bowler's allowance is one fifth of the innings, computed per match from that match's own overs format (rather than a fixed per-division figure) — the "more overs?" utilisation signal measures overs given against that allowance across the games played. Bowling style (pace vs spin) is not recorded on scorecards, so utilisation and opening-the-attack are used as the evidence of resource use instead.
Opportunity fairness. A "did not bat" is neutral — it never counts against a player. Specialists are judged on their specialism, and players with fewer than four real opportunities (innings batted + games bowled in) carry a limited evidence badge instead of a ranking judgement. The output below opportunity flag requires all three of: 8+ selections, 6+ real opportunities, and a recent impact under 20 per game — it can never fire on a player who wasn't given chances.
Roles. A player counts as a batter if they batted in at least 40% of their games (minimum 3) at a typical position of 8 or higher; as a bowler if they bowled in at least 40% (minimum 3); as an all-rounder if both. The filters on the contribution board use these definitions.
Caveats. (1) Fielding credit is read from each dismissal's scorecard text and under-counts where scorecards record initials only. (2) Abandoned games count for neither side. (3) Sunday XIs and other leagues are out of scope for this page.
